A note from the President
Dundee University Fencing Club is a friendly and exciting club with both a strong competitive aspect and a lively social calendar. We cater for everyone from complete beginners to seasoned competitive fencers and we welcome all comers whether you want to compete or just have a place to blow of some steam and enjoy yourself. Our British Academy qualified coach, Richard, runs the training sessions with the help of our dedicated core of senior club members and together we will introduce you to this exciting sport and if you want we can help you reach very high levels of competition. We also have strong links to other clubs both in Scotland and further afield, including ETV in Hamburg, a very successful German club whom we often visit.
The club competes regularly in both individual and team events, last season both the men and women’s teams reached the knockout stages of the BUCS Trophy and the year before the men’s team won this competition beating strong opposition from all over the UK. We medalled in both the Scottish individual and team championships and our beginners enjoyed an impressive haul at the beginners championships, in addition to this, 3 members of the club represented Scotland at the Student 5 Nations last year with 4 members also being invited this year. Outside of university sport we also compete in the Scottish circuit of opens.
Our social calendar is also action packed with events throughout the year and our ‘ShagTag’ event was the unions the biggest night outside of Freshers week, Halloween and St Paddy’s. Not all our events are this big but every one of them is great fun and helps contribute to your university experience.
Come see us at the sports fair or play before you pay for and we’ll show you what the club is all about! If you want more information please email us at fencing@dundee.ac.uk.
